A Legend of Zelda movie might be on the way with a female actor playing Link

Link remains hugely popular with cosplayers

Two of Nintendo’s most prominent people have discussed the possibility of a film based on the Legend of Zelda series.

Given Link is somewhat of an androgynous character, general manager Takashi Tezuka told MTV that he would like the hero to be played by a woman.

“It would very fun and awesome if Link was played by a female actress - a boyish female actress,” he said.

Nintendo svengali Shigeru Miyamoto added: “This is something I never imagined because Link is very different to how a Japanese person looks.

"At the Japanese Expo I attended, there were so many people in cosplay who looked very good.”

Hollywood video game adaptations have a turbulent history to say the least, with 1993’s Super Mario Bros being a particular low point, but if done right a live action Zelda movie could be great.

It would certainly be exciting to see environments like the Great Deku Tree and Zora’s Domain come to life, though a deeper plot would need to be written as cinema-goers might not want to spend two hours watching Link search for an empty bottle.
