Inspired by the National Portrait Gallery’s Lucian Freud exhibition, an event called ‘Late Shift: Draw the line’ set out to explore the many facets of life drawing last week.
The gallery was transformed into an art studio and attendees were encouraged to try out their own drawing skills before a sitting life model.
Freud, who died last year aged 89, painted the human figure as raw and imperfect, defying airbrushed ideals of the naked body.
In this video Sophie de Stempel, a model painted by Freud, reflects on her relationship with the artist and the power modelling has over the resulting picture.
Another life model, Marinella Mezzanotte, describes her experiences posing for different artists and the assumptions that many people make about nude sitters.
