AS the last family prepares to move out of Glasgow's ill-fated Hutchesontown complex today, the Modernist conservation group Docomomo is working to save the 400 high-rise flats from demolition. The complex was designed by Sir Basil Spence, architect of Coventry Cathedral. Glasgow District Council claims that between pounds 15m and pounds 20m needs to be spent to return Hutchesontown to an acceptable standard. James Dunnett of Docomomo says the flats 'could be as real an asset to Glasgow as the work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh'. Docomomo has called on Historic Scotland to spot-list Hutchesontown, which is due to be demolished in August.
