Architecture Update: One lasting look at London Zoo

A pictorial record of London Zoo is soon to be published by the Royal Commission on the Historic Monuments of England. Prompted by the threat of the zoo's closure, the commission decided to carry out a rapid survey as part of its programme of recording threatened buildings. There have been plans to demolish some of the zoo's buildings, but the commission believes they could be reused. This includes the reinforced concrete interiors of the 70ft goat hills on the Mappin Terraces, and the Parrot House, which, according to the commission's new research, was built between 1868-78, some 20 years earlier than had previously been thought.
