JANUARY is proving a good month for Stirling Wilford, the architectural practice of the late Sir James Stirling and his partner Michael Wilford. It has been chosen to design a new arts centre in Singapore - the biggest in Asia - where it is currently working on a new polytechnic. Closer to home, it was announced last week that the City of London has agreed to sell contested land at No 1 Poultry, allowing Lord Palumbo finally to build on the site, using a plan by Sir James. After the architect's unexpected death last June, Lord Palumbo pledged he would build the scheme in Sir James's honour.
