Architecture Update: Walk right in

MORE than 200 London buildings grand and modest, but all of architectural interest, will open their doors on 10 and 11 September as part of England's first European Heritage Open Days.

Not to be missed are: the Imagination building on Store Street, WC1, one of the best hi-tech spaces in London; Burton House, a contemporary private house and studio by the architect Richard Burton; the Granary on the former King's Cross Railway Lands, built by Lewis Cubitt in the 1850s, and the Granada Bingo Hall, Woolwich, which still retains Komisarjevsky's 1937 dramatic Gothic cinema interior.

Elsewhere in the country the Civic Trust is co-ordinating the opening of around 1,000 buildings. For details of buildings open in your area, contact your local library or tourist information centre. Admission to all buildings is free.
