They are some of the world's most recognisable faces: defaced. A series of revealing photographs show pop stars rejecting their polished images in order to create original artworks to sell at a charity auction.
The photographer Rankin worked with 80 artists on the images, and the collaboration, "Destroy/Rankin", will be exhibited at the Phillips de Pury auction house in London, between 9 and 21 November. On 14 November, 25 of them, as well as a painting by Damien Hirst of The Clash singer Joe Strummer, will be sold and the proceeds given to the charity Youth Music. Fans with more modest budgets can bid for the rest online at eBay.
