DANCE: EVENT OF THE WEEK
White Oak Dance Project Wed to Sat Sadler's Wells, London EC1
It might sound like a duff name for a dance company, but who's going to care when Mikhail Baryshnikov, Russian ballet titan turned contemporary dance megastar, is leading it? White Oak Dance Project, named after the American wildlife reserve where Baryshnikov and his pals have rehearsal facilities, returns with another mixed programme and its usual trick of finalising details only at the eleventh hour. One certainty: this time Baryshnikov will be the sole man, surrounded by five women. Surely he isn't afraid of male competition? Eighteen months ago, dancing in Paris, he showed he was still uniquely mesmerising and I suspect that, at 51, he remains the same.
White Oak Dance Project, Sadler's Wells, Rosebery Avenue, London EC1
(0171-863 8000) from Wed to 12 June, 7.30pm
