Andrew Logan is an interesting bloke. He is probably best known to the general public as the man who brought you that popular drag- fest the Alternative Miss World, but he is primarily an artist, and his role as king of kitsch is secondary. From today until 29 October, the Manchester City Art Galleries play host to a major exhibition of his sculpture under the unpleasantly healthy title of The Happy Heart Show. Alongside his better-known works such as the Cosmic Egg and his Pegasus sculptures will be a diversity of new and often alarming stuff. If the drag queen and John Waters collaborator Divine (left) wasn't alarming enough in her own right, Logan has just finished a statue of her that is 11ft high: something that will make many a heart happy. This will be on show along with a portrait of Brian Eno which comes complete with specially composed music. On a less frivolous note are his beautiful Celestial, Imperial and Mao Cones, a response to the colour and chaos he saw on a trip to Peking with the colourful and chaotic Zandra Rhodes. The Elements is a winged sun accompanied by a hologram of Michael Davis holding fire in his hands and sporting a fetching merman's tail. To accompany all of this is a piece by Third Estate, who even as you read are taking inspiration from Logan's work and turning it into a specially commissioned dance to be performed in the gallery from 21-28 October. Golly. All that creativity from just one egg.
