This election is still a dead heat, according to most polls. In a fight with such wafer-thin margins, we need reporters on the ground talking to the people Trump and Harris are courting. Your support allows us to keep sending journalists to the story.

The Independent is trusted by 27 million Americans from across the entire political spectrum every month. Unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock you out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. But quality journalism must still be paid for.

Help us keep bring these critical stories to light. Your support makes all the difference.

On another planet, in another universe - it's not so hard to imagine haute-auteur Quentin Tarantino lensing Warner Bros.' Suicide Squad.

A wayward band of colourful villains, strung together by circumstances out of their control; add just an extra dose of blood splatter, and a kicking '70s soundtrack, and you've got yourself some prime Tarantino territory.

Loot Crate Productions has unveiled their own take on exactly what such an endeavour would look like; crafting Tarantino's own Task Force from the likes of Pulp Fiction's Jules Winnfield (Samuel L. Jackson), Inglorious Basterds' Lt. Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt), Django Unchained's Django (Jamie Foxx), and Kill Bill's The Bride (Uma Thurman) and schoolgirl Gogo Yubari (Chiaki Kuriyama).

And their leader? The director himself; with the video assembling its own perfect team of look, act, and soundalikes for the video, itself capturing Tarantino's outlandish style with absolute verve.

Directed, edited, and conceived by Julian Higgins for Loot Crate - a monthly subscription service specialised in geek gear - the parody manages to integrate plenty of references both to Tarantino's work and to Suicide Squad itself. Except they're only "sort of" the bad guys, here; you're never quite sure with Tarantino.

Suicide Squad opens in UK cinemas 5 August.
