Sir: Deborah Orr's article "The burden of free trade" (20 August) goes to the nub of the greatest threat to democracy facing us: should the people or should global companies have the final say in what's good for us and the planet? In suggesting that the World Trade Organisation may be about to press for the banning of labels showing the genetic modification of products or their components, Ms Orr reveals the malignancy underpinning what passes for pressure for Free Trade these days.
