Sir: I would like to express great disappointment at the resignation of Frank Field MP as Minister for Welfare Reform on Monday 27 July.
He has long been a spokesperson for those whose lives are blighted by poverty and social exclusion and has dedicated many years of work on their behalf. On what was to be his last day as Minister he had arranged to attend a Policy Forum of people living on poverty at TAD Fourth World headquarters. In the light of subsequent events, and given the pressures he was under, it is to his credit that he kept the appointment. This was much appreciated and clearly shows his respect for the most vulnerable in our society. It is to be hoped that his successor will continue the dialogue which Frank Field began.
