Sir: Your article "Woman judge gets to highest legal rank" (29 June) concludes, "Although the Lord Chancellor was consulted on her appointment, it was not his decision. That fell to the four heads of division." In fact, the heads of division make no judicial appointments. This appointment is made by recommendation to the Queen from the Prime Minister, who is advised by the Lord Chancellor.
