Sir: Howard Cooper is wrong to complain that The Independent carried no news of the Queen Mother's birthday (letter, 10 August). The birthdays column (Gazette, 4 August) recorded the fact as the first item on the day. As a republican, I was irritated to see that the position of the announcement was out of alphabetical order.
