Sir: Your remark on electricity prices under the old regime of the Central Electricity Generating Board (30 per cent higher in real terms than today) is somewhat unfair (Business Outlook, 29 June). The factor that has enabled prices to be reduced is the government decision to allow the use of natural gas in power stations and the use of imported coal. This could have been achieved without privatisation if the same freedom had been granted to the CEGB.
