Pop gig of the week: Yeah Yeah Yeahs, various venues
For a band who once seemed like gung-ho ephemera incarnate, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' story has been a glorious tale of the unexpected.
Centred on Karen O's one-woman riot of personality, they arrived in the early 2000s as lusty no-wavers among a slew of fash-mag-friendly guitar believers.
Having "gone electro" on 2009's It's Blitz!, their pop-slut instincts now embrace dub, gospel, soul, rap and goth-punk on Mosquito, which outpaces their peers with a welcome twist in their tale: a sparking display of the kind of lasting potency that the Strokes would sell their trainers for.
