Caught in the Net: Flying Lotus gets ready to soar again

Until the Quiet Comes, the new album from Flying Lotus, arrives on 1 October.

Given the acclaim for the LA producer's excellent last record, Cosmogramma, in 2010, the new LP is likely to land with some fanfare. Recently we got the first full track from the album. The song, "See Thru To U", has been released on iTunes and can be streamed at youtu.be/A7lbY-THNHc. It's a rather good understated opening salvo with hints of soul, jazz and electronica all hopping around Flying Lotus' experimental pallet. And to round it off, there's a lovely low-key vocal from Erykah Badu.

The King's new track could be a grower

I was a big fan of the sonic sketches on King Krule's self-titled EP, released last year. The young musician, whose real name is Archie Marshall, set off quite a buzz with that record and he returns now with a new single. The track, "Rock Bottom", is released as a split single next month but can be heard at soundcloud.com/king-krule. The new effort is led by a spiky post-punk-like guitar and Marshall's distinctive south London drawled vocals, then expands out to take in drums with speeded-up dubstep inflections. Alas, I'm not fully convinced by this new track but after a few listens it did start to grow somewhat on me.
