Master P calls on hip hop community to look after its own in wake of DMX hospitalisation

Rapper Master P is calling on the hip hop community to look after its own after DMX was hospitalised and placed on life support.
DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, suffered a heart attack on Friday. His manager said on Wednesday that he was due to undergo tests of his brain function.
Reacting to the news regarding DMX’s health, Master P told TMZ: “I’m praying for DMX and his family, and I hope that people start celebrating these icons while they’re alive.”
Master P, whose real name is Percy Robert Miller, added: “I feel like hip hop needs some type of union. The NBA have it … We need that.”
“I think it starts with education,” he told the outlet. “I want to start educating our people … My thing is the education that we can invest into the next generation and our culture education. We could prevent this, if you look at all the heroes and stars that we lost … If DMX comes back to us, let’s see the people out here making noise for him be there for him.”

DMX’s manager Steve Rifkind said on Tuesday in a statement: “DMX is currently on life support and in a coma. There are multiple people with inaccurate information about his well-being and it is not helpful and productive.”
In the same statement, Rifkind said the rapper’s brain function would be tested on Wednesday (7 April), “and his family will determine what’s best from there”.
