Mark Ronson's 'Uptown Funk' tops chart following Fleur East's X Factor performance

Mark Ronson has scored his first ever number one single in the UK with “Uptown Funk”.

The singer was forced to rush release the song following Fleur East’s performance of the single on the X Factor last week that topped the iTunes chart.

Sales of the single have put it in the running for Christmas number one, according to data from the Official Charts Company.

The single, which features Bruno Mars on vocals, sold 118,000 copies on is release on Monday evening, including 105,000 downloads and 1.35 million streams.

“Uptown Funk” was due to be released in January from the producer’s forthcoming album Uptown Special, but his record label decided to release the single early following East’s performance of the song.

The 26-year-old contestant performed the song again last night in her bid to be named the winner of this year’s X Factor.

East’s version of the song was out-selling the likes of Taylor Swift and Take That on the iTunes real-time download chart last week, but has since been overtaken by Ronson’s own version.

The X Factor hopeful was able to perform the song as Ronson’s record label Sony is shared by Simon Cowell’s Syco.

Ronson has previously entered the UK top 40 at number two twice, with Amy Winehouse collaboration "Valerie" and "Stop Me", which were both released in 2007.

Elsewhere in the chart, Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” slips to number two and Band Aid 30’s “Do They Know It’s Christmas” jumps 12 places to number three following its physical release this week.

Take That’s “These Days” is at number four, while Oliver Helden’s “Last All Night (Koala)” enters at number five.
