THE GIG

David Bowie / Morrissey

"I don't like to think of myself as an icon, particularly," said one- time Morrissey collaborator Sandie Shaw. Pop's favourite icon, the man who stole depression from Leonard Cohen, begins a tour alongside pop's most famous art-collector, whose recent album is a massive return to form.

Tues, 7.30pm, Wembley Arena (0181-900 1234)

THE PLAY

Mother Courage and Her Children Theatre's leading double act of director Jonathan Kent and Dame Diana Rigg (All for Love, Medea) team up again for the new David Hare version of Brecht's classic. All preconceptions about placards and Brechtian alienation should be abandoned.

Tues, 7pm, Olivier National Theatre, London SE1 (0171-928 2252)

THE BALLET

Swan Lake

Matthew Bourne and Adventures in Motion Pictures turned The Nutcracker into a theatrical sensation. Their new Swan Lake boasts ex-Royal Ballet star Fiona Chadwick and current principal Adam Cooper, plus a male corps de ballet and, one suspects, oodles of wit.

Tues, 7.30pm. Sadler's Wells, London N1 (0171-278 8916)
