Vaughan Williams: Five Tudor Portraits, etc. Bach Choir, New Philharmonia / Willcocks (EMI, CD). Classic choral recording from the Sixties, reissued as part of EMI's superb British Composers series. MW

Howard Ferguson: Amore Langueo, Piano Concerto, etc. London Symphony Chorus, CLS / Hickox (EMI, CD). Another British Composers release - newly recorded - of two rarely heard scores by a composer overdue for reappraisal. MW

Elvis Presley: The Memphis Sessions (discs four and five of From Nashville to Memphis: The Essential '60s Masters, BMG, five CDs). A huge chest of treasures from the King's triumphant 1969 comeback. The vapidity of so much of the preceding three discs seems tragic in comparison. BT

The Breeders: Divine Hammer (4AD, EP). Bold harmonies and a great bonus track: Kim Deal in duet with Dinosaur Jr's J Mascis - a blank generation Tammy and Marvin. BT

Daryl Hall: Stop Loving Me, Stop Loving You (from Soul Alone, Epic, CD/LP/tape). The matinee idol of blue-eyed soul takes a fragment from Marvin Gaye's divorce album and creates a dance to the music of doomed love. Richard Williams
