Riyadh, Saudi Arabia - October 6, 2023 - The Riyadh International Book Fair 2023, renowned as the largest literary event of its kind in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, warmly welcomed literary aficionados beginning October 5th, under the banner “An Inspiring Destination.” The event unfolded over a vast expanse of 55,000 square metres, presenting a rich cultural agenda designed to appeal to a broad spectrum of literary tastes and age groups.

This edition of the fair was distinguished by the participation of over 1,800 publishing houses from across the globe, assembling within 70 pavilions to display their latest works spanning a wide array of genres, including literature, arts, and knowledge. A standout feature of the event was the inclusion of 25 French publishing houses, brought together under the "Riyadh Reads French" initiative. Additionally, the fair featured a special exhibition of thousands of manuscripts and rare collectibles, complemented by stunning artworks, all of which captivated the attention of attendees.

Oman’s pavilion, positioned at the heart of the exhibition, showcased a treasure trove of books, manuscripts, and various Omani cultural symbols to underscore the strong cultural connections and collaborative spirit between Saudi Arabia and Oman.The pavilion also featured contributions from talented Omani authors, creators, and publishing houses, who introduced their most recent works to the more than one million visitors anticipated to attend.

Coinciding with the book fair, the "International Publishers Conference" convened on October 4th. This prestigious forum focused on charting the future trajectory of the book industry, while addressing the prevailing challenges facing the publishing sector. A diverse array of industry stakeholders, including publishers, authors, content creators, and specialists, engaged in meaningful dialogue and participated in one-on-one meetings aimed at fostering business relationships and facilitating the exchange of publishing rights.

Over the course of ten days, the fair’s cultural program featured in excess of 200 events. These included seminars, poetry readings from both classical and Nabati poets, workshops covering a variety of knowledge domains, storytelling sessions for children, and activities designed to enhance children’s cognitive development within a culturally enriched setting. Additionally, attendees were treated to Saudi and international theatrical performances, musical concerts, and the "Book Talk" event, which brought together influential thinkers and authors.

A novel addition to this year’s fair was a poetry recitation competition tailored specifically for children, aimed at nurturing their poetic talents and oratory skills. The event also served as the venue for the Literature, Publishing, and Translation Commission’s exhibition award, which celebrated publishing excellence across five distinct categories.

The Riyadh International Book Fair 2023 offered a vibrant and culturally enriching experience, featuring a diverse range of activities tailored to all age groups. These included dialogue sessions with prominent speakers from Saudi Arabia and beyond, poetry evenings, theatrical plays, musical performances, knowledge-enhancing workshops, and a special area dedicated to young readers. This plethora of events collectively served to promote reading and enhance the skills of all participants.

The fair also provided a platform for cultural institutions, international publishing houses, and organisations showcasing rare books, manuscripts, and artworks, further contributing to the event’s richness and diversity. In a nod to the burgeoning world of self-publishing, the fair featured a dedicated section for Saudi authors, showcasing over 400 titles and providing valuable exposure.

Concluding on October 7th, the Riyadh International Book Fair 2023 established itself as a pivotal hub for literary and cultural exchange, offering all visitors an unparalleled opportunity to delve into the world of literature and knowledge.
