Official viewing figures for the first week of the Olympics reflect a golden performance by Linford Christie. Christie's gold medal run was watched by 13.03m, the highest non-soap audience on television for that week and the third highest audience for a BBC sports event this year (after the Grand National, 16m, and the Frank Bruno vs Jose Ribalto fight, 13.8m). The women's 100m final was watched by 10.77m, Yvonne Murray's 3,000m final was watched by 10.61m.
