Alan Davie/White Noise (IKON Gallery, John Bright Street, Birmingham, 021-643 0708, Tues to 19 Sept). Davie is a noted Scottish painter (and jazzman), bold, zippy, a bit sploshy. White Noise is a multi-media mixed show by five contemporary artists, each a member of one or more minorities, resisting 'marginalisation'.

Mis(sed) Representations (Bluecoat, Liverpool, 051-709 5689, Tues to 5 Sept). Six black artists, making photo- based work, addressing health and race issues. Let's hope the pictures are better than the title. This use of internal brackets must stop.
