Jeremy Clarkson to give first BBC interview since sacking on Chris Evans' Radio 2 show

'We will be talking about what's going on with him now, and Richard and James as well – and what perhaps could be going on in the future'

He’s back. For the first time since his infamous ‘fracas’ over a steak Jeremy Clarkson is returning to the BBC, taking part in an interview with Radio 2 DJ Chris Evans.

Clarkson’s contract with the BBC was not renewed earlier this year after BBC director general Tony Hall decided that “a line had been crossed”.

Evans said of the forthcoming interview: "Jeremy Clarkson will be here live in the studio and he will be participating in an interview with myself.

"He's going to be here between 8 and half past 8. It's the first interview he's given since parting company with the BBC, as far as Top Gear is concerned. And we will be talking about what's going on with him now, and Richard and James as well – and what perhaps could be going on in the future.

Evans is a car fanatic himself and has long been rumoured to be replacing Clarkson on the currently ceased Top Gear.

However, in regards the role as presenter, Evans has previously said: “I can categorically say I am not and will never be running for office. Please discount my candidacy.”

Jodie Kidd, Philip Glenister and Guy Martin are the current “dream team” tipped to present Top Gear next, but the BBC has declined to comment on speculation.

Meanwhile, former Top Gear presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May have reportedly been discussing their future plans for a car show, the trio currently believed to be pursuing either a deal with ITV or possibly Netflix.

One name apparently being thrown around is the "genius" House of Cars, named after the Netflix political drama House of Cards.

Those still mourning the lack of Top Gear in your Sunday evenings, BBC2 boss Kim Shillinglaw has hinted that final scenes featuring Clarkson could air as early as this summer.

The current series was brought to a sudden close before the last three scheduled episodes were broadcast.
