X-Files creator Chris Carter says the Fox network are 'going to ask for more'

The finale of the supposed standalone six episodes left viewers with a huge cliffhanger

Considering its six-episode revival was said to be a standalone series, The X-Files finale left fans with one hell of an unexpected cliffhanger.

Despite this, it seems that series creator Chris Carter is pretty convinced that the show's fresh lease of life is just beginning.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, he claimed that the show's network Fox "...are going to ask for more."

"The ratings were very good. They were happy with the show. I talked to [FOX TV Group CEO and Chairman] Dana Walden today. She said they'd very much like more. So there's an appetite for more in the future, it's just a matter of figuring out how to get it done."

He did point out one caveat, though.

"The last negotiations took about five months, so it could be a while before we figure out how to do this."

Assuaging this is Carter's belief that both David Duchovny (Fox Mulder) and Gillian Anderon (Dana Scully) are "game" for a continuation.

Given the huge cliffhanger, you'd better hope so.

The first few episodes of the revival received negative reviews but the consensus is that the season drastically improved with each new episode.

The fresh X-Files fever doesn't end there, either; two origins novels are set to be released tracking Mulder and Scully in their teenage years.

The X-Files airs in the UK on Channel 5 every Monday.
