KLAUS TENNSTEDT is conducting Mahler in London again, or at least he was at press time: the often fragile conductor had certainly arrived for his London Philharmonic performances of the Seventh Symphony yesterday and today. In characteristically eccentric style he turned up on a 20-hour ferry trip from Hamburg, having been stopped on medical grounds from flying earlier this year and thus, at the time, missing Haydn's Creation and a tour. Tennstedt's last Mahler in the UK was the Sixth Symphony, 18 months ago.
