THE VALE of Ogwr will be filled with the sounds of music, poetry and song today at the start of the National Eisteddfod of Wales.

The first Eisteddfod was held in 1176 at Cardigan Castle. The 1998 version is at Pencoed near Bridgend in South Wales, and includes more than 200 competitions.
