Good Day for goshawks, as the Defence Ministry in Taiwan announced that it would be training 15 crested goshawks and 10 Asiatic sparrowhawks to scare birds off runways at airports. They had previously tried model planes, recordings of birds in distress, fireworks, gun shots. chemicals and flashing lights.

Bad Day for Tjaart Andries Schutte, a former policeman in South Africa, who has been convicted of selling a human heart and gallstones taken from a Johannesburg mortuary. He sold the heart for 2,000 rand (pounds 300) and three gallstones for 500 rand (pounds 75) for use in traditional medicine.
