Primark CEO Paul Marchant has resigned following an investigation into “his behaviour towards (a woman) in a social environment”, parent company Associated British Foods (ABF) has confirmed.
ABF said that Mr Marchant had acknowledged his error in judgment and apologised to the woman involved, to the ABF board and to his Primark colleagues.
Mr Marchant had led Primark since 2009, after previously holding positions at New Look, Debenhams, Topman, and River Island.
ABF CEO George Weston said he was “immensely disappointed” and said that “colleagues and others must be treated with respect and dignity”.
ABF finance director Eoin Tonge will serve as interim Primark CEO.
