Primark CEO resigns over behaviour towards woman

  • Primark CEO Paul Marchant has resigned following an investigation into “his behaviour towards (a woman) in a social environment”, parent company Associated British Foods (ABF) has confirmed.
  • ABF said that Mr Marchant had acknowledged his error in judgment and apologised to the woman involved, to the ABF board and to his Primark colleagues.
  • Mr Marchant had led Primark since 2009, after previously holding positions at New Look, Debenhams, Topman, and River Island.
  • ABF CEO George Weston said he was “immensely disappointed” and said that “colleagues and others must be treated with respect and dignity”.
  • ABF finance director Eoin Tonge will serve as interim Primark CEO.
