Former UK Prime Minister Sir Tony Blair has reversed his criticism of the Government's net-zero policies, stating his support for the 2050 target and the Government's approach.
Sir Tony's initial criticism, published in a Tony Blair Institute report, warned against the financial and lifestyle sacrifices required to meet climate pledges, arguing they would have minimal impact on global emissions.
The U-turn came just before local elections and a by-election on Thursday, crucial tests for Sir Keir Starmer's government.
Environment Secretary Steve Reed welcomed Sir Tony’s contribution to the debate, agreeing with many of his points while defending the Government's push for clean energy and reduced reliance on fossil fuels.
