The Independent on Sunday was last week named Environmental Newspaper of the Year in the prestigious British Environment and Media Awards, winning the accolade for the second year running.
The judges applauded the newspaper for "a very strong entry ... which was clearly demonstrated by a real range of coverage throughout all sections of the paper and created by a range of specialist journalists, editors and other contributors".
Michael McCarthy, environment editor of our sister paper The Independent, won the RSPB award for Environmental Journalist of the Year. He was commended for his positive reports, which "disproved the accusation that environmental writers are all doom merchants". The award was won last year by Geoffrey Lean, environment editor of The Independent on Sunday.
