Best dehumidifier deals to banish the damp
These models stood out in our tried and tested review – and they’re not discounted

High humidity can cause issues all year round and not only during winter. If you’re noticing condensation, damp and mould, then it's important to look into using a dehumidifier to keep these issues at bay. To save you cash on your new appliance, we’ve hand-picked the best dehumidifier deals to shop.
If you’re wondering how these household appliances work, dehumidifiers remove excess water in the air and lower humidity levels, which reduces allergens, damp and pollutants. Not only do they offer an economical way to dry your laundry – as they draw moisture from fabrics – but they are also cost-efficient (the average cost of running a dehumidifier is less than 40p an hour).
Whether you’re looking to have one in a large or small room, there are plenty of options on offer, with mini and extra-large machines available. Right now, for example, you can save on the best dehumidifier in our IndyBest reviewer, the Duux bora smart dehumidifier (was £299.99, now £249, Amazon.co.uk). “This dehumidifier can extract up to 20l of water in a 24-hour period, making it ideal for homes with severe humidity issues”, wrote our tester in their review, where they chose it as the best model overall. Dubbed the best model for air quality in our dehumidifiers review, this Daewoo design is “a must-have for any home or office battling high humidity”, according to our reviewer. “While it only has a 2l water tank, its self-evaporative system recycles collected moisture, reducing the need for frequent emptying.” This feature proved highly effective, bringing down humidity in our tester’s home from 70 per cent to 40 per cent. Even better, the nifty appliance is now on offer at Robert Dyas.

“The dedicated laundry mode impressed us, significantly speeding up drying time for a full clothes horse of washing,” said Rachael Penn when reviewing this dehumidifier. Recommending it for small to medium-sized spaces, she found that it “works quickly to remove excess moisture”. The auto defrost and restart function “enables use in colder areas such as outhouses, conservatories, and garages during winter months, too”, she said. With this deal at Amazon, you can save £30 on the model.
Meaco MeacoDry arete one 25l dehumidifier and air purifier: Was £299, now £259, Currys.co.uk

A similar model to this, the Meaco arete two, was “one of the smartest, most energy-efficient dehumidifiers”, noted our review of this model, and it claims to cost just 3p an hour to run, making it one of the cheapest, too. An air purifier and a dehumidifier in one, this is “really quick to pull moisture out of the air, has lots of fan speeds, and the laundry mode dried our clothes fast, without any damp smell lingering on our garments”. The arete one currently has £40 at Currys.

If you need a dehumidifier that can cover larger areas, consider investing in this Sharp model. Our home appliance reviewer, Rachel Penn, was shocked by how effective it was. Having left it to run in different areas of the house, the “air felt a lot dryer and clearer”. The LCD control panel is “really easy to use”, and the laundry drying mode meant clothes that would usually take a lot longer to dry were “cupboard dry within 24 hours”.

They added: “It did a great job of helping to speed up the amount of time it took for our clothes to dry, which is super handy during the winter months when the washing line is out of action.”
Honeywell TP-FIT 12l: Was £189, now £119.95, Amazon.co.uk

If you’re limited with your available floor space or would just rather your dehumidifier not be a feature item in your home, this model from Honeywell is a great pick. “This dehumidifier proves that good things do come in small packages. The compact unit packs a surprising punch, collecting up to 12l of water over 24 hours, with a generously sized 2.5l tank,” noted our review.
How does a dehumidifier work?
Dehumidifiers are all about ousting excess moisture from the air in your home, which should ease the effects of damp – whether that be mould accumulating on the walls or tackling dust mites (which thrive in warm, damp conditions).
There are actually two kinds of dehumidifiers you can choose from, depending on the conditions in your home. The first of these is referred to as a refrigerator dehumidifier, as it works by drawing moisture in through a fan before cooling it with very cold, refrigerated coils. Cooling the air creates condensation, which collects in the dehumidifier’s tank (this is why transparent tanks can be helpful). These are generally best if your house tends to be warm.
The second relies on some kind of absorbent material, which will suck up any damp from the air that way. When this material is heated up, the moisture then drips into the water tank.
