In my Internet piece last week, writes Richard North, I said I had a target of 476 E-mail items in my 'in' tray, since that was what a smart think-tanker I had met had in his one morning. I didn't reach the target, but 70 items of mail from readers of this page was very satisfying and took my ancient modem a good hour to download. I have half a feeling that I was propositioned by one correspondent, but I can hardly remember what the experience was like in the flesh and may well have mistaken its electronic equivalent.
