Flappy Bird creator to release 'less addictive' sequel with multiplayer options

The simplistic and addictive mobile game Flappy Bird that held the internet in its thrall back in February is reportedly set to return to our screens this August.

Vietnamese developer Dong Nguyen told American news network CNBC that he wants to bring the game back as a multiplayer titles that is ‘less addictive.’

Technology site TechCrunch has said that the game is slated to make a comeback in August, though these reports are far from certain.

Since pulling the game from stores in early February Nguyen has been promising the return of Flappy Bird for months.

The young game designer said he removed the title from the iOS App Store after the media scrutiny became too much for him, saying that it was an “addiction” that had to be stopped.

“Flappy Bird was designed to play in a few minutes when you are relaxed,” said Nguyen in an interview with Forbes.

"But it happened to become an addictive product. I think it has become a problem. To solve that problem, it’s best to take down Flappy Bird. It’s gone forever."

The game’s removal didn’t have much an effect on fans however, with one gaming site calculating that at the height of Flappy Bird fever a clone of the title was appearing on the App Store very 24 minutes.
