Turner Broadcasting has bought Icelandic production company Latibaer, which makes LazyTown, the children's television series that is currently broadcast on CBeebies in the UK.

This is the latest move by Turner, which already owns Cartoon Network and Boomerang, to expand its pre-school business.

The deal is believed to be worth in excess of $20m (£12.5m).

LazyTown's creator and star, Magnus Scheving, pictured, will remain chief executive of Latibaer, and will immediately start work on a new series of the show that is aired in more than 100 countries.

According to the company, it has been seen by more than 500m children around the world.
