Robin Drew, journalist, died 25 July, aged 65. Editor of the Herald 1980-81 (the Rhodesia Herald till Zimbabwe's independence in April 1980). Resigned when it was taken over by the state.

Michael Twomey, waiter, died 22 July, aged 67. From 1948 head waiter of the Palm Court at the Ritz Hotel.

Mumeo Oku, feminist politician, died Tokyo 7 July, aged 101. Sat in Japan's House of Councillors 1947-65. Founded Shufuren ("Housewives' Association").
