The producers of the 82nd Academy Awards, Bill Mechanic and Adam Shankman, who breathed new life into the Oscar show last year, announced they have tapped Hamish Hamilton to direct the telecast on March 7, 2010, for a fresh energetic approach with style.

This is Hamilton's first time with the Oscars, but the director's credits include the MTV Video Music Awards, MTV Europe Music Awards, concerts by U2, Neil Diamond, Josh Groban, Stevie Wonder, and Christina Aguilera, the Victoria Secret Fashion Show.

Hamilton will also direct the Super Bowl XLIV half-time show in February 2010.
