The white truffle season may have ended as soon as it began. Flash floods, which hit Piedmont, northern Italy, earlier this week may have wiped out three-quarters of the funghi, according to Agostino Aprille, president of the local truffle association.
Truffles higher up on the mountains might have escaped the worst of the storms, ``But no one is in the mood to look for truffles at the moment, we're just trying to clear up the mess,'' he said.
