Today is the last chance to pick up a few bottles of this delectable Cape chardonnay at a bargain discount price, down from £5.49. From the Robertson district's ace winemaker Danie de Wet, the grapes are barrel-fermented to create a dry white with subtle oak flavours of vanilla and butterscotch, and a richness scythed through by a refreshingly clean-cut, lemony acidity. Drink it with either grilled or roast tarragon chicken.

Tinta Cao is one of the Port varieties and its use in Australia is evidence of a growing trend, albeit limited, which is challenging the dominance of French grape varieties. This attractive example, with its aromatic spicy clove undertones and citrus peel zest, comes from a company with a growing reputation for good value wines. It recommends pizza or pasta with it and I wouldn't disagree.
