White: 2000 Errazuriz Chardonnay, 2 for £8, Thresher Wine Shops, Wine Rack, Bottoms Up, Victoria Wine. Normally £5.49, the saving on two bottles (till Wednesday) makes the special offer on this excellent new-vintage Chilean chardonnay unmissable. It's a quality dry white whose delightfully rich and buttery, tropical fruitiness is held together by appley snap of clean acidity. Would suit either roasted pepper bruschetta, or pork loin.
Red: 1997 Château Suau, Premiÿres Cÿtes de Bordeaux, £4.99, Thresher, Wine Rack, Bottoms Up, Victoria Wine. Good value claret? If it sounds like an oxymoron, £1 off a bottle until Wednesday makes this juicy and full-flavoured, unoaked blend of the merlot, cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc grapes from the opposite bank of Gironde estuary from the Médoc something of a steal. Try with grilled lamb cutlets and seasalt, and rosemary-baked potatoes.
