Sir: Jonathan Glancey refers to "an embarrassing delay" surrounding the decision by trustees of the Cardiff Bay Opera House to confirm the appointment of architect Zaha Hadid. Who is embarrassed? I can promise you the trustees are not, either by the decision or the time it took.
The process of commissioning the architect is deserving of detailed and careful study. The trustees are proud to have been painstaking in that task and, rather than being the butt of criticism by an emotional and vocal minority, I hope our detailed and open consultation with all parties will be seen to have been a proper and responsible process.
Yours faithfully,
PATRICK DEUCHAR
Chief Executive and Trustee
Cardiff Bay Opera House
London, SW7
