Army bandsman on rape charge

A Royal Artillery bandsman has appeared in court charged with the rape of a woman aged 27.

John Morgan, 29, described as a 'concert-quality bassoonist, allegedly attacked the woman at his house in Lee Court, Lewisham, last Saturday. His commanding officer, Major Terry Davis, director of music for the Royal Artillery band based in Woolwich, told Greenwich magistrates: 'He is a highly qualified musician of exemplary conduct.

Mr Morgan was bailed to appear again on 19 July.
