NOW THIS really is strange. What is going on at Black & Edgington, the quoted minnow of an engineering company. They have called their annual general meeting on 31 December. Nothing strange in that you might think, but you'd be wrong.
That date is a Saturday, and if I were a shareholder I'd get down there pronto. After all, experience would suggest that Saturday is not the most convenient day for an investor to attend an AGM.
But the company seems unable to throw any light on this bizarre and absurd state of affairs. "I don't know why it's on a Saturday. I really don't," a secretary tells me.
