Think No Evil of Us - My Life With Kenneth Williams, Vaudeville Theatre, London WC2 (0171-836 9987)

As the world now knows, when David Benson was a nipper he won a Jackanory competition and had a story read on TV by Kenneth Williams. It was the start of a fateful and fruitful (in every sense) connection with the late, great wit, warbler and Will o' the Wisp voiceover. Benson's unbridled success at the 1996 Edinburgh Festival led to a national tour for this most exemplary of solo shows, a triumphant return to Edinburgh in 1997, two Christmas seasons on the London fringe and at last, a two-week West End transfer. You don't get that far on a good impersonation alone, although his uncanny capturing of the voice alone was enough to to captivate Maggie Smith. The strength of this uncommonly strong piece of theatre is his elaborate fashioning of fascinating material into a dramatic tale of the unexpected. Warning: this is your last chance.
