ID for M11 security men

Reliance, the security firm guarding the M11 link road site in Wanstead, east London, is to make staff wear identification numbers, after complaints from protesters who say guards have been too rough in ejecting them.

Jamie Burrows, general manager of Reliance, said the move did not come as a direct result of complaints but from a feeling that the firm needed to be more accountable.

He said there had been a substantial number of allegations against the security force, which numbers up to 300 on some days, but most accusations did not come with a date, time, location, or identification of the individual.

Identification numbers would also help to differentiate his employees from contractors working on the site.

The road will link Wanstead and Redbridge.
