Last week was ...
a Good Week for poetic justice, as Private First Class Itthiphol Warayu had his car, gun, mobile phone and other values stolen from him by a woman in the resort of Pattaya. The victim of the crime was a police officer assigned to a task force working on the problem of eliminating vice from the notorious "sex and sand" resort. The thief was a woman with whom he had been sleeping in a love motel.
a Bad Week for Boris Yeltsin, whose puppet has gone missing. The puppet was stolen from the satirical Kukly programme - a sort of Russian Spitting Image - which is having to use a less convincing spare puppet of Yeltsin while waiting for a replacement to be made.
a Violent Week for piemen, as Lester "Bear" Bryant was convicted of shooting the brother of his girlfriend for eating a slice of his lemon meringue pie he had been keeping for himself. A prosecuting lawyer said the verdict showed that local residents would not stand for violence over a piece of lemon meringue pie.
