Your article corroborates my own painful experience of this controversy. I recovered memories of abuse (while always being aware of an abusive ambience) which were definitely not "planted" by any therapist but triggered by events in the present bearing traces of past trauma. Mistakenly, I tried to talk to my father: I longed for him to deny the memories, to reassure me they were untrue. Instead he refused to talk about them, joined the British False Memory Society, tried to isolate me from the rest of my family and gave press interviews exaggerating what I said. I believe these tactics - which aim to distort, to intimidate and silence me - are themselves abusive and echo his past mistreatment.
