Light work in the shade keeps up with a long-held Downing Street tradition

A Westminster City Council maintenance worker carrying out a six-monthly check on one of eight street lamps in Downing Street. The design dates from the turn of the century but the one above was installed in the Fifties. Originally gas-powered, they were converted to electricity 10 years ago.
