Supermarkets now account for more than half of all fruit and vegetable sales; three-quarters of all bread; one-third of milk and three- quarters of cream; nearly half of red meat sales and more than half of all poultry; one-third of wine and more than half of ales and stouts. Sainsbury's even has its own off-licence in Calais.
